Credit File
What is in my credit file?
This document contains a lot of personal information about you:
- loans and credit cards
- employers
- banking information (e.g. bounced checks)
- bankruptcy, criminal record, if any
- payment history
- names of people or companies who have asked for your credit file. These people or companies must have obtained your prior consent to consult your credit file
By law, credit bureaus are obliged to store this information for a reasonable period of time. In practice, this period is six or seven years.
