My credit card was stolen. Will I have to pay for the transactions that the thief made with my card?
In the event of loss or of theft of your credit card, your responsibility is generally limited to $50. Accordingly, even if a thief makes $1500 worth of purchases with your card, it will only cost you $50. In addition, if the thief makes the transactions after you notify your card-issuing company, you do not have to pay anything. Note: Visa Canada and Master Card Canada have adopted a “responsibility zero” policy. Under the terms of this policy, holder of credit cards of these companies are protected in the event of fraudulent operations made on their account. This applies to all purchases made with MasterCard or Visa, whether in a store, by telephone or on the Net.
