Bills and formal notices

Do I need a lawyer to issue a formal notice?
No. A formal notice is a letter that you can write yourself without the aid of a lawyer. All you need do is to explain your situation and make your request. For example: “I hereby formally notify you to credit me the sum of … since I consider that I am not obliged to pay such charges for the reasons given…” Do not forget to send your letter by registered mail. If this step does not produce the desired result, you can submit your case to small claims court if the amount claimed is $7000 or less, or to another court if it is higher.
