Personal information and privacy

I have just learned that a company I have been dealing with for a while sent information about me to a credit bureau, without my consent. Do I have any recourse?
Yes. Under the Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector, no private company may, except in exceptional cases, transmit information about you without obtaining your prior consent. To exercise your rights, you can lodge a complaint with the Commission d’Accès à l’information.

Note: when signing a contract, the company is sometimes authorized to transmit such information; it is therefore important to read the contract very carefully.
