Bell is threatening to suspend my basic service. Does it have the right to do this?
In order for your telephone company to suspend your basic telephone service, you need to have an overdue account in excess of $50, or your account needs to have been overdue for more than two months. The unpaid sum must also be what you owe on your basic telephone service. Bell does not have the right to “cut you off” if your debt is related to long-distance calls, whether or not you disagree about having made these calls. Nor does it have the right to do so if you contest your debt. However, you still have to pay the part of the debt that is not contested.
