Commercial Practices
I decided to have my car repainted in order to give it a fresh look. Is the work guaranteed? Do they have to give me an invoice?
Under the terms of the Consumer Protection Act, painting work is regarded as repairs. Consumers who have such work carried out therefore enjoy the same protection as if they have had repairs carried out, that is to say, a guarantee of three months or 5000 kilometres, whichever comes first.
As is the case with any repairs, the retailer is also obliged to give the customer an invoice. In particular, he must record his name on it, as well as his address, the consumer’s name and address, the make, model and serial number of the vehicle, the date the car was delivered to the consumer and the number of kilometres appearing on the odometer on that date, the description of work carried out and the numbers of hours involved, the hourly rate and the total cost of labour, the total amount that the consumer has to pay and the details of the guarantee.
