I am often bothered by telephone solicitation. I want this to stop. What can I do?
You can ask the caller to remove your name and telephone number from the list. The company will have 30 days to comply and the request is valid for 3 years. You can also contact the Canadian Marketing Association’s Do Not Contact service. This association collects the names, telephone numbers and other relevant information about people who do not want to be bothered by remote solicitation. Four times a year, it forwards this information to its members, who are then bound to remove all these names from their marketing lists. If you do this, you should notice a significant reduction in the number of such calls you receive within three months. Finally, at the end of 2007, the Canadian Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) plans to create a national list of excluded telephone numbers on which you can include your own.
