Commercial Practices
I have just found out that the television set I paid $1600 for generally sells for less than $800. Can I ask for a reduction?
Yes. Quebec courts have ruled that a contract that requires a consumer to pay twice as much for a product or service than its commercial value is an abusive contract that contravenes the
Consumer Protection Act. You can send an official notice to the retailer and ask for your contract with him to be cancelled or request a 50% reduction in the price you paid. If the retailer refuses, you can apply to Small Claims Court.
