Option consommateurs 2007-2008
“Once more this year, the Option consommateurs team has assumed major challenges and utilized its expertise in numerous consumer-related fields including energy, financial services, indebtedness and agrifood," says Option consommateurs Executive Committee Chairperson Natalie Rech.
Highlights of 2007-2008 :
- At the request of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), we went to the Consumer Protection Bureau in Hanoi, Vietnam, in order to share our expertise and help the Vietnamese develop their own consumer protection act. We gave presentations on the role of consumer protection associations, class action, guarantees and the responsibilities of manufacturers.
- Through its Legal and Budget departments, Option consommateurs provided assistance to more than 8,000 consumers.
- As part of our energy effectiveness program, we made over 900 visits to low-income households to help reduce electricity and heating bills.
- A run of 140,000 copies ensured that The Toy Guide, which is produced by our News Service in collaboration with Protégez-vous magazine, was available to a wide number of consumers.
- We gave over 665 interviews in the print and electronic media. We also collaborated on several occasions with television programs such as Domenica Poirier en ligne, La facture and J.E.
- We are currently engaged in 29 class action suits.
- For the first time as a member, we participated in the Consumers International World Congress that was held in Sydney, Australia.
- We travelled to Nunavik in the Far North to offer information sessions and individual consultation on budgeting to residents.
